TIMELESS ILLUMINATION FOR GENERATIONS
TIMELESS ILLUMINATION FOR GENERATIONS
Established in 1874 in Copenhagen, Louis Poulsen has spent more than a century shaping the way we experience light. In collaboration with some of Denmark’s most visionary designers, the brand has created timeless, high quality lighting defined by exceptional craftsmanship and a deep understanding of how light interacts with space.
At Louis Poulsen, light is never an afterthought. Each design is developed to enhance its surroundings, balancing form and function to create atmosphere, comfort, and clarity. Rooted in Scandinavian design principles, every lamp reflects a commitment to thoughtful details, enduring materials, and lighting that feels as good as it looks.

Louis Poulsen’s story began as a wine import company founded by Ludvig Poulsen. As Copenhagen embraced electrification in the late nineteenth century, the company evolved alongside the city, shifting its focus to lighting in 1892.
Throughout the early twentieth century and beyond, Louis Poulsen played a pioneering role in modern lighting design. The brand’s philosophy centers on shaping light rather than simply producing lamps. By collaborating closely with architects and designers, Louis Poulsen helped define a distinctly Danish approach to lighting that prioritizes human experience, architectural harmony, and glare free illumination.
This legacy continues today, with each design reflecting more than a century of innovation and craftsmanship.
Few lighting designs have achieved the lasting cultural significance of the AJ and Panthella collections. Designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the AJ Table and Floor lamps embody minimalist elegance and purposeful form. Their distinctive angled shade directs light precisely where it is needed, reflecting Jacobsen’s holistic approach to architecture and interiors.
In 1969, Verner Panton introduced the Panthella lamp, a playful yet refined design that pairs organic curves with soft, diffused light. Its sculptural silhouette and innovative use of materials make it as much a design object as it is a functional lamp. Together, AJ and Panthella represent the breadth of Louis Poulsen’s design heritage, where architectural clarity meets expressive creativity and where light is always at the center of the story.
An iconic design is more than a visual statement. It is an investment in quality and longevity. At Louis Poulsen, sustainable design means durable design. Lamps are created to be maintained, repaired, and passed down through generations.
With meticulous attention to detail and precision engineering, each piece is built to integrate seamlessly into daily life year after year. Original spare parts and accessories are available to ensure that every lamp maintains its beauty and performance over time.
This dedication to durability ensures that Louis Poulsen lighting is not only timeless in style but also responsible in its impact.
We celebrate Danish design icons so that both present and future products can be part of the brands that have helped create our Danish design culture.
