Breathing Life Into Indoor Air
Most of us spend nearly 90% of our time indoors, at home, at work, or in classrooms. Yet, the air we breathe inside is often far worse than the air outside. Invisible pollutants and CO₂ build up, leaving us tired, unfocused, and unaware of what’s really happening in the air around us.
That is where Birdie® comes in, a modern reminder to take a breath of fresh air.
The Yellow Canary
Over a century ago, miners would carry small yellow canaries with them into the dark tunnels below ground. The birds were not just companions, they were lifesavers. When the air became toxic, the canary would faint, signaling that it was time to leave the mine.
Birdie® works the same way, only this time it is for your home, office, or classroom. With a built-in CO₂ sensor, Birdie® gently drops down when the air quality is poor, reminding you to open a window and let fresh air back in. When the air improves, Birdie® comes back to life. A poetic fusion of design and purpose, Birdie® makes the invisible visible and helps you and those around you breathe better every day.
Meet the Founders
Friends Hans Høite Augustenborg and Andreas Kofoed Sørensen grew up together in a small coastal village north of Copenhagen. One day, Hans noticed how much time we spend indoors and how little attention we pay to the air we breathe. He remembered the old tale of the canary in the coal mine and the idea for Birdie came to life.
The two set out to design a visible solution to an invisible problem. What started as a hobby soon turned into a full-time mission. Today, Birdie® is on a mission to improve indoor air quality across millions of homes, offices, and schools around the world, one small yellow bird at a time.
